Who We Are
Harbor Orphan Care is a ministry of Harbor Church, San Diego, engaged in God’s call to care for the fatherless (James 1:27).
Worldwide over 132 million orphans face truly grim realities (UNICEF Report). In the U.S., there are currently over 400,000 children in the waiting to be fostered and adopted (Health and Human Services Report). Here in San Diego, approximately 6,500 youth find themselves in foster care (San Diego State University). As a church focused on the renewal of the city, we are driven to respond to these troubling statistics.
Harbor Orphan Care’s response centers on CHAMPION-ing care of the orphan, PARTNER-ing with families that choose adoption, and JOURNEY-ing with them in the days and years that follow.
WE CHAMPION efforts to care for orphans both locally and abroad. Particular expressions of mercy are often Harbor-site specific and emerge from the passions and promptings of engaged church members.
Additionally, we champion concern for the orphan by promoting education and awareness of orphan-related topics including: Theology of Adoption, Avenues of Adoption, Fostering Brings Healing, etc.
WE PARTNER with adoptive families as they face multiple barriers to adoption. As a church, we surround these families with prayer and care. In partnership with Lifesong for Orphans, we partner with them financially, awarding both matching grants and interest free loans. Contact us if you are interested in this kind of partnership.
WE JOURNEY with foster and adoptive families by facilitating and hosting support groups. Support groups are organized by geographic region and by special needs. Contact us to get a current list of open support groups.
